Queen Sound BridgenearChincoteague Island
On the road to Chincoteague, Virginia is Queen Sound Bridge and public boat launching facility. This is one local spot to fish from land. Fish begin showing up in spring and stay into late fall. Flounder, small bluefish, rockfish, trout, croakers, black sea bass, tautog, sandbar sharks, dog sharks and juvenile back drum are some of the fish that are caught nearby.
The area where access is to fish is very shallow and the bottom around the bridge contains a lot of snags. The channel has some bridge rubble on the north side from the old bridge and the channel itself has areas of a rough shell bottom and large growths of coral and sponge. Bottom fishing can be tricky.
Anglers occasionally cast artificial lures from the shoreline out towards the bridge pilings. Although the fishing is inconsistent, striped bass, bluefish, and other species are sometimes caught by fishermen. As with many types of fishing, the best action often occurs around nightfall and in bad weather.
