Places to Fish from Shore

Swans Gut Creek

In Sinickson, Virginia, Swan's Gut Creek flows into Chincoteague Bay. This is one local spot to fish from land. Fish enter the creek in spring and stay into late fall. Flounder, small bluefish, rockfish, white perch, trout, sandbar sharks, dog sharks and juvenile back drum are some of the fish you may find. The creek is very shallow and the bottom contains a lot of snags. Bottom fishing can be frustrating but bait can be fished on a bobber or artificials can be used. This is a perfect area for flyrodding.

Kayakers can explore up the creek or down the shoreline. To the south is a sandy beach which can be reached by small boat. The area is frequented by all sorts of birds and other wildlife.

This is also a relaxing place to crab, clam or just explore.  Insect repellant is a must! Access to Swan's Gut Creek is at roughly  37 59.37 N 075 25.80 W.
