This page provides information on the Blackfish Banks Artificial Reef, which is located just off the coast of Chincoteague Island, Virginia. The reef has been constructed in two phases.

The original reef is composed of tanks dispersed near a buoy. A second phase added railcars several hundred yards east of the tank-reef. The subway railcars are located in roughly 60-70 feet, just east of buoy 8A.

The reef attracts black sea bass, tautog, spadefish, triggerfish, bluefish, flounder, sea trout, croakers, and other structure-oriented fish. The reef is also visited by larger gamefish including cobia, amberjacks, jack crevelle, and sharks.
