Maryland and Virginia LORAN and GPS Coordinates
These LORAN and GPS coordinates encompass areas around the Maryland and Virginia coast, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel vicinity and the
Chesapeake Bay up to Buoy 72 .Most of these are buoys although there is a little bit of everything here.
The waypoint coordinates are given in the format degrees-minutes and decimal minutes (DD MM.MMM). In other words 37 30.222 would
be 37 degrees, 30.222 minutes. This is the most common format among local boaters. The map datum I use is WGS84. NAD83, the other common datum is
virtually the same.
Make sure the format and datum of a pair of coordinates match your GPS settings before using them as navigation
data! Also be sure to match your GPS to the datum on the charts you use.
WARNING!!! There may be errors in this database! NEVER rely on electronic position devices as a sole means of navigation!
I have done the best job possible to avoid errors but all waypoints should be verified against an up to date navigational chart.
