The blueline tilefish is one of several bottom fish that are caught by deep dropping in the Mid Atlantic. Blueline tilefish live in burrows in the bottom, sometimes congregating in colonies.

Anglers fish for blueline tilefish by deep jigging or by fishing with cut bait. The Norfolk Canyon is known for producing record catches of blueline tilefish and other deep sea species.
