The area known as the Parking Lot is a popular spot for fishing. The area centers around a wreck known locally as “big steel barge”. This high profile wreck is intact in about 90 feet of water. The parking lot wreck lies on a hill just inside the 20 fathom line about 25 miles east of Chincoteague Inlet.
The Parking Lot wreck is heavily visited by divers, commercial fishermen and recreational anglers. It is best known as a tuna chunking hotspot but anglers also catch bluefish, sharks, king mackerel, dolphin fish, cobia, black sea bass, tautog, gray triggerfish, and other species.
