The Magothy River

The Magothy River is located north of Annapolis Maryland. Surrounding the river are several small ponds, bogs, and swamps. In the upper watershed, Magothy Branch is impounded to form Lake Waterford.

In the lower river, sheltered areas such as Dobbins Island, Shelly Bay, Tar Cove, and Magothy Narrows are popular with explorers. Dobbins Island is well known for its boat float events. The river empties into the Chesapeake Bay at Gibson Island. The entrance of the Magothy River is marked by Baltimore Light Station.

The Magothy River hosts a variety of water sports, including pleasure boating, sailing, kayaking, and other activities. Near Lake Waterford, Beachwood Park provides access for shoreline fishing, kayak and canoe launching, and other activities.
