Lake Gaston Fishing
Lake Gaston sustains a wide range of fish species, including sportfish, forage fish, and migratory species. Sportfish species including largemouth bass, striped bass, black crappie, white crappie, sunfish, blue catfish, flathead catfish, channel catfish, bullheads, white perch, yellow perch, and walleye.
The lake’s sportfish feed on several forage fish species including alewife, blueback herring, gizzard shad, and threadfin shad. In addition to its year-round populations of fish, the lake is visited by migratory fish species. Due in part to recent restoration efforts, both American shad and American eels are able to move through the impoundment as they undertake season migrations.
